Getting Started with Sites

Build a simple public site in a few steps

In this walkthrough you build a small company site with:

Anyone can open it without signing in.

1. Create the app and switch it to Site

  1. Ask the App Builder to create a new app, for example:

"Create an app called Acme Site."

  2. Open Properties and choose Upgrade on Site.

The Pages tab now appears in the workspace.

2. Build the Home page

Describe the Home page in chat:

"Make the Home page a public landing page for Acme Ltd: a large heading, a short company description, and buttons to Products and Contact."

The App Builder writes the page and sets the Home page access to Public. Check it in the Design tab.

3. Add a Products page

"Add a public page at /products that lists our products with name and price from ERP.net."

The App Builder will:

  1. Create the page — you see it in the Pages tab with its address and access mode.
  2. Create a public web request that reads the products from ERP.net with a service login.
  3. Ask you to enter that login under Cloud → Secrets.

Enter the service user's details when asked. Use an ERP.net user that can only read what the page should show.

4. Add a Contact page

"Add a public page at /contact with a form for name, email and message. Send the message to sales@acme.com."

5. Check the pages are public and published

Open the Pages tab and check each row:

6. Share and test

  1. Copy the address from the Pages tab or the Deploy tab. It looks like https://app.operator.net/p/acme-site, and https://app.operator.net/p/acme-site/products for a sub-page.
  2. Open it in a private browser window, where you are not signed in.
  3. Click through all pages and try the form.
